Last updated August 2026 · LingoDrop for iOS and Android

LingoDrop is built to work fully offline with no account, and to collect as little data as possible even when you choose to use one. This page explains exactly what the app does and doesn’t do with your information.

Using the app without an account

You are never required to create an account. If you choose “Continue without an account,” your learning progress — which words you’ve seen, how well you know them, your streak, your settings — is stored only on your device, and is never sent to us or to any third party.

Signing in (optional)

LingoDrop offers Sign in with Apple on iOS and Sign in with Google on Android, so your progress can follow you across devices. If you choose to sign in, we receive a stable identifier from Apple or Google and, unless you choose to hide it, the email address you sign in with. We store that identifier and email, along with your learning progress, streak, settings, and — if you use them — your friend connections and shared streaks, on our server so your account can sync between devices. We never see your Apple or Google password, and we don’t use any of this data for advertising.

Friends (optional)

If you connect with a friend in the app, each of you can see the other’s streak, which course they’re studying, how far into it they are, whether they finished today’s word, and the streak the two of you share. You choose the name your friend sees. Nothing else is shared, and removing a friend removes what you shared with them.

Deleting your data

You can permanently delete your account and all associated data at any time from Settings in the app (“Delete All Data”). This removes your progress, account information, and friend connections from our server and from your device, and cannot be undone. Full instructions, including how to request deletion if you no longer have the app installed, are on our account deletion page.

Microphone & speech recognition (optional)

LingoDrop includes an optional “practice speaking” feature. If you choose to use it, the app records your voice briefly so it can check your pronunciation against the word you’re learning, in the language you’re currently studying. This only happens when you deliberately tap the microphone button — it never listens in the background.

Whenever your device supports it, this speech recognition runs entirely on-device, and the audio never leaves your phone. Where on-device recognition isn’t available for your device or language, the recording is transcribed by the speech recognition service built into your operating system — Apple’s on iOS, Google’s on Android — the same infrastructure those systems use for ordinary dictation. We do not receive, store, or have access to your voice recordings.

You can deny microphone and speech recognition access at any time in your device’s settings, and every other part of the app continues to work normally.

What we don’t do

Children

LingoDrop is suitable for all ages and does not knowingly collect personal information from children beyond what is described above. Sign-in is optional, and a child can use the entire app without an account.
